French

At Lingham Primary School we want to develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages and inspire our pupils to become life-long language learners. Through our MFL curriculum. which also links to the wider curriculum, we would like our pupils to develop solid foundations in the five key language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar). We want to offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity as well as developing a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them.

With these aims in mind, we have selected an innovative foreign languages scheme called ‘ Language Angels’. MFL is taught through different units covering a variety of age-appropriate topics. These units allow pupils to progressively acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary, language skills and grammatical knowledge. We believe that it is important that our pupils also learn about French culture as well as developing their language skills so they will also have the opportunity to engage with a variety of activities to develop their cultural understanding.

We are confident that our chosen scheme of work and resources will provides our pupils with a relevant, broad, vibrant and ambitious foreign languages curriculum that will inspire and excite our pupils as well as give them the opportunity to use and apply their language learning in a variety of different contexts.
